A neural network, trained on hundreds of thousands of curated artificial images of nature, has generated an interactive synthetic forest that continuously reshaped in real time. This piece condences that work to a movie and asks what dreams of nature might form inside a machine – and what kind of memory could give rise to them. The work draws on the concept of atavic memory: knowledge buried in an organism's body, carrying deep evolutionary history below conscious awareness. Here, it becomes a recollection searching for a body to inhabit.
