For the past 25 years, from his studio in Zurich, photographer Kurt Caviezel has been monitoring tens of thousands publicly accessible surveillance-cams located all over the world. Since 2020, he has been working with the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences as a cooperation partner on his project «Watching The World». Kurt Caviezel downloads single images or takes screenshots of situations he finds interesting; he then uses algorithms and AI to compile a huge pool of images and to categorize them according to various criteria, recurring patterns and themes. Every day, 2 million images are downloaded. For Kurt Caviezel, the world wide web is a camera - his camera. And a very huge one to boot.
